Oman’s Khazaen to build fruits, vegetables market by 2021-end

The Muscat Municipality has signed an agreement with Khazaen Economic City, which is developing the integrated economic city (of the same name) over 51.6 million m2 of land in Barka. As per the agreement, Khazaen will build and transfer the wholesale activities from the Central Market of Fruits and Vegetables in Mawaleh to Khazaen Economic City.

The agreement is aligned with the Sultanate’s objective to support the government’s efforts to strengthen food security.

Under the agreement, Khazaen will build a world-class infrastructure and facilities that will replace Al Mawaleh Central Fruit and Vegetable Market. The new market is expected to serve as one-stop hub for the wholesale of fruits, vegetables in Oman by consolidating importers, exporters, wholesalers, retailers and consumers in one central destination.

The new market will adopt best international practices in infrastructure development, storage, packaging, handling, transportation, parking and value-added services.

The concept master plan has been completed, detail design is ongoing, the tender document is ready, and construction of the new market is expected to commence by the end of 2021, Khazaen Economic City posted on LinkedIn.
